A favicon is the short name for a 'favourites icon', and is also known as a website icon or page icon. It is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage and is displayed in the address bar of your web browser next to the domain name URL; next to the website's name in a bookmark list, and also next to the webpage's title in a tabbed document.

Favicons are fairly straightforward to integrate in to a site; there is a wide range of favicon generators to assist you in creating a personalised favicon. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can use a freely available standard icon that can be downloaded from the Internet and incorporated into your site.
